What is in it

  • Total bacteria (Enterococcus faecium, Streptococcus thermophilus, Lactobacillus helveticus, L. delbrueckii, L. casei, L. plantarum, Bifidobacterium bifidum) — min 5 billion CFU per capsule
  • Fructooligosaccharide (prebiotic)

What owners consistently report

  • Sprinkled capsules were accepted by cats and dogs in wet food
  • Owners of pets with long-running stomach trouble reported steadier stools
  • Kittens with diarrhea after adoption improved, in the owners' telling

What the research supports

In an open-label study, 53 cats with chronic diarrhea took Proviable-DC daily for 21 days: mean fecal score fell from 6.0 to 4.4 (P<0.001) and 72% of owners saw improvement, with no placebo group (PMID 22412160). In a randomized double-blinded placebo crossover, 16 healthy cats on clindamycin for 3 weeks took 2 capsules a day or placebo: all completed the first treatment period on the synbiotic against 50% on placebo (P=0.04) and food intake was higher, but fecal scores did not differ (PMID 28755457); vomiting was numerically lower and not significant (PMID 30038854). The dog trial in the research file used Proviable-Forte with S. boulardii, not this product (PMID 31268578).
