SuppleGut
Affiliate disclosure
The short version. Some buy links earn us a commission. Which product you are matched with, and the order results appear in, are decided before any commercial relationship is applied to the page. Where we earn nothing from a product, its card says so.
Why this disclosure exists
The Federal Trade Commission's Endorsement Guides (16 CFR Part 255) require that a material connection between a publisher and a product be disclosed clearly and conspicuously. This policy is that disclosure. Every page on the site links to it from the footer, every buy link that can earn us a commission is marked as sponsored in the page code, and a product card that earns us nothing says so beneath its buy button.
How we make money
Through affiliate commission. If you click a buy link and purchase from that retailer, the retailer or its affiliate network may pay us a percentage of the sale. It costs you nothing extra, and the price you pay is the same as it would be had you gone to the retailer directly.
We participate in affiliate programs operated through networks including CJ Affiliate and Impact, and directly with some brands and retailers. We may add or remove programs over time.
SuppleGut Pet (/pet/) works the same way. Its Amazon buy links carry our Amazon Associates tag and earn a commission, and where a pet product is also sold at iHerb the price-check row goes through the same CJ Affiliate link as the rest of the site; every link on the pet pages that earns is marked sponsored in the page code. Links to Chewy, PetSmart and brand websites on the pet pages earn nothing at present, and say so beside the button.
What commission does not do
This is the part that matters, so we will be precise about the mechanism rather than simply asserting independence.
- Ranking is computed first. Products are scored against your answers on customer experience, published research for that specific formula, product quality, and your stated preferences. Only after that ordering is fixed does the site look up whether a commercial relationship exists and build the outgoing link.
- No brand can pay for placement. There is no sponsored slot, no promoted listing, and no rate card. We do not accept payment to appear in results, to move up a list, or to be described more favorably.
- We do not remove unaffiliated products. If the best match for your answers is a product we earn nothing from, it is still shown first, and the card says we earn nothing.
- Commission rates differ between retailers, and we ignore that. Sending you to a lower-paying or non-paying retailer is a routine outcome of the way the site works.
How to check for yourself
Where we have no commercial relationship with a product, its card on the results page says "No affiliate relationship. We earn nothing if you buy this — it is here because it matched." A card without that line is one where a purchase may earn us a commission.
You can verify the underlying link too. Right-click any buy button and copy the link address: an unaffiliated link is a plain retailer URL, while a monetized one carries tracking parameters or passes through an affiliate network's domain. The site is built so that there is no state in which a link is tracked but the card claims no relationship.
Other things worth disclosing
- We sell no supplements of our own. No house brand, no private label, no reseller arrangement, no dropshipping. There is nothing for us to steer you toward.
- Some retailers own some of the brands they sell. Where a retailer's own private-label product appears in our catalog, it earned its place on the same criteria as everything else, and we say so in the product notes.
- We are not paid by manufacturers for reviews, placements, mentions, or favorable descriptions, and we do not accept free product in exchange for coverage.
- We are not compensated for negative coverage of competing products.
Where evidence is thin, we say so
Some products in our catalog have little published research behind their specific formula, or very few independent reviews. In those cases the product page states the limitation rather than papering over it. We never claim a product diagnoses, treats, cures or prevents anything.
