What owners consistently report

  • Picky cats took it in food or warm water
  • Used through a course of antibiotics without trouble
  • Owners reported firmer stools and less vomiting

What the research supports

In a double-blinded placebo crossover of 217 shelter cats over two 4-week periods, 7.4% of cats on SF68 had diarrhea lasting 2 or more days against 20.7% on placebo (P=.0297) (PMID 21689152). In 27 laboratory cats given amoxicillin-clavulanate for 7 days, FortiFlora for 14 days (n=13) versus placebo (n=14) gave lower total diarrhea scores over days 1 to 11 (P=0.0058), with fecal scores above 5 in 9 of 13 against 12 of 14 (PMID 29291771); the same design showed the dysbiosis index normalized by day 14 (P=0.0322) (PMID 41923274).
