Why it might work

The immune-triggering parts of gluten and of milk casein are proline-rich fragments that survive normal digestion. DPP-IV clips those fragments at their ends, and the added proteases work on the rest; the idea is to shorten the fragments before they reach the small intestine. The laboratory data support partial breakdown; whether that changes symptoms in a sensitive person has not been tested.

What the research supports

Class-level and laboratory evidence. Dipeptidyl peptidase-IV breaks down some of the fragments of gluten and casein in test-tube digestion, which is the basis of the product. The one gluten enzyme with human trial data is AN-PEP, a different enzyme, and a 2015 study found several commercial gluten-digesting products including DPP-IV blends failed to degrade gluten fully under simulated digestion. No trial of GlutenEase was found.

What the label discloses

The label lists protease Thera-blend, DPP-IV, amylase Thera-blend and glucoamylase, with activity units on the pack. Enzymedica states the product is vegan, gluten-free and tested in-house as well as by third parties. The "Thera-blend" claim of activity across a pH range is the brand’s own.

Who this tends to suit

We match this product to people reporting symptoms that follow particular foods, bloating and gas. It fits someone whose priority is handling meals or day-to-day comfort. Whether it is the best fit for you depends on the rest of your answers — what you have already tried, what format you will take, and anything that has to be ruled out.

Where it may not fit

The label supports vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free and no added sweeteners. A capsule only works if you will take it as often as the label directs.

Side effects and what to be aware of

DPP-IV enzymes have not been shown to degrade gluten in people the way AN-PEP has; the support is from laboratory digestion models. It is not for celiac disease and does not make gluten safe. Reviews split between those who cannot do without it and those who felt nothing. A minority report nausea.
