Gut health quizzes compared: what each one asks and what you get
Quick answer
Which gut health quiz should I take? It depends on what you want at the end. For the name of one product to buy, chosen from many brands: the SuppleGut quiz. For an ingredient to look into: GutCited. For a formula or daily pack from the brand that runs the quiz: Dr. Ruscio, Bioma, HUM Nutrition or Persona. For a lab report on your own gut microbes: a stool test from Viome, Tiny Health or Ombre, at $149.99 to $279.

Gut health quizzes come in two kinds. A questionnaire asks about your symptoms and habits and answers in a few minutes. A microbiome test asks for a stool sample and answers in two to four weeks with a report. This page sets out what each of the better-known ones asks, how long it takes, what it costs and what you are given at the end, taken from each company’s own page.

| GutCited | A site that grades supplement ingredients on published research | Eight questions | Main concern, how long it has lasted, diet, stress, probiotic history, food sensitivities, exercise, whether you have seen a healthcare provider | Ingredients to explore, such as peppermint oil or psyllium husk |
| Dr. Ruscio | The clinic and supplement shop of Dr. Michael Ruscio, DC | Two minutes, as stated | Your top gut-related concerns | Supplement recommendations, plus articles, podcasts and videos from the clinic |
| Bioma | A probiotic brand | Not stated | Starts with what you want to improve: weight loss, feminine health, menopause, night cravings and sleep, or a GLP-1 alternative | A Bioma probiotic formula for that goal |
| HUM Nutrition | A supplement brand | Three minutes, as stated | Your goals and nutritional needs | HUM product recommendations, a personalized nutrition report and access to a registered dietitian |
| Persona | A vitamin-pack company | Five minutes, as stated | Your goals, health and medications, screened against more than 4,000 drug-nutrient interactions | A daily vitamin pack designed with a nutritionist, with calls included |
HUM and Persona cover supplements in general, digestion included. The other four are about the gut specifically.

What a quiz reads and what a test reads
A questionnaire works from what you can report: where and when the symptoms come, how long they have lasted, what you eat, what you take and what you have already tried. Its answer rests on trials run in people with the same symptoms.
A stool test works from the sample. 16S sequencing, the method Ombre uses, reads one gene to identify which bacteria are present. Shotgun metagenomics, which Tiny Health uses, reads all the DNA in the sample. Viome sequences RNA, which shows which microbes are active. Each returns a report on the organisms found, with food and supplement suggestions built on it.
The practical differences are time and cost. A questionnaire answers in minutes. A test takes a sample kit, a mailing and two to four weeks.
How to choose
- You have a symptom and want the name of a product. The SuppleGut quiz names one, from many brands, with its reasons.
- You want to know which ingredient to read about. GutCited’s quiz points to ingredients.
- You already like a brand and want its pick for you. Dr. Ruscio, Bioma, HUM and Persona each run a quiz alongside their own range; HUM and Persona add a dietitian or nutritionist.
- You take prescription medicines. SuppleGut checks them ingredient by ingredient against the products it might name, and Persona screens its packs against drug-nutrient interactions.
- You want to see your own microbiome. Viome, Tiny Health and Ombre each return a report from a stool sample.
How the SuppleGut quiz decides
It first removes anything unsuitable for you: allergens you named, cautions for pregnancy or breastfeeding, and documented interactions with prescription medicines. It then ranks what is left on real customer experience, clinical research for that specific formula, and product quality, and uses your preferences on format, budget and diet to choose between close candidates. The result is one product with the reasons it won. SuppleGut has no house brand, and nobody pays to be listed or to move up. How we match sets out the criteria in order, and the symptom-by-symptom guide gives the trials the quiz weighs.
