What the research supports
In a prospective placebo-controlled blinded trial, 25 dogs with acute hemorrhagic diarrhea took Visbiome for 21 days: clinical recovery was significant by day 3 in the probiotic group (P=0.008) and by day 4 with placebo (P=0.002), with lower Clostridium perfringens abundance on day 7 (P=0.011) and fewer enterotoxin genes on day 21 (P=0.028) (PMID 30261077). Acute hemorrhagic diarrhea is a see-the-vet-now condition, so this supports use alongside veterinary care. In 24 healthy dogs on prednisone for 28 days, Visbiome did not reduce gastric lesion scores (PMID 36951379). No cat trial was found.
