The themes in the reviews
- Less bloating and gas after meals
- Long-term use over many years
- More regular digestion for some
Those are the themes that recur across the reviews. Low review confidence — the 4.65 from 151 reviews is shown only on the brand’s own page through a Judge.me widget, 149 of the 151 were imported from another provider (86 from 2021, two since 2023) with star ratings that sometimes contradict the text, both Amazon listings are unavailable, and the Trustpilot profile is unclaimed with one review.
Why it might work
The brand says the plant enzymes (proteases, amylases, lipase, lactase, alpha-galactosidase, cellulase, bromelain, papain and dipeptidyl peptidase IV) break food down before or as it is eaten, that lactase helps with dairy and dipeptidyl peptidase IV with gluten, and that the probiotics and aloe supply organisms and minerals that help absorption. The enzyme claims are plausible for the class, but this label lists only one enzyme with an activity unit inside the blend, so what each capsule delivers cannot be checked. Aloe vera leaf is listed at 50 mg; the page says aloe reduces constipation and has antibacterial properties, and it does not state whether the leaf powder has the laxative latex removed. The brand also claims it can replace antacids, which the trials above did not test.
What the trials show
Nothing in the trial registries tests this formula. The enzyme class has two small placebo-controlled trials in functional dyspepsia, one of 120 adults on 400 mg a day of a fungal-fermentation blend for 2 months and one of 40 patients on 150 mg a day of a branded blend for 60 days, both improving symptom scores, but this label’s blend is unquantified and its probiotic mix gives 50 million CFU in 2 capsules against the 10 billion CFU of DDS-1 used in the one trial of that strain, which measured stress and immune markers, not digestion. Aloe vera helped IBS symptoms in a meta-analysis of three trials (151 patients), but the preparations there were not shown to match 50 mg of leaf powder.
What the label discloses
The panel has two proprietary blends: a 150 mg enzyme blend with an activity figure only for dipeptidyl peptidase IV, and a 10 mg probiotic mix of seven organisms with a single 50 million CFU total and no per-organism counts. Only Lactobacillus acidophilus DDS-1 carries a strain designation. The brand shows a banned-substance screen and states GMP manufacture, but gives no potency or purity testing and no allergen or facility statement.

Who this tends to suit
Its symptom profile covers bloating, gas, heartburn or reflux, symptoms that follow particular foods and general abdominal discomfort. It is scored for a goal of handling meals or day-to-day comfort. Symptoms get Optimal 1 Digest-A-Meal onto the shortlist; what you have tried, the format you will keep up and your medicines decide whether it stays there.
Where it may not fit
The label supports gluten-free and dairy-free. The honest question before buying Optimal 1 Digest-A-Meal: will you take a capsule as often as the label directs?
Reactions and warnings
Most reviewers on the brand’s review app describe less bloating and regularity over many years of use, while a few report no effect or stomach pain. The star ratings and written reviews do not always agree in the imported reviews. Shipping cost and a 30-day window for opened bottles come up, and the brand’s page makes strong claims about replacing acid blockers and use in babies and pregnancy that have no label warning text behind them; ask a doctor first if you take medicines or are pregnant.
The questions that come up
Does Optimal 1 Digest-A-Meal work?
No trial of this product exists. Digestive enzyme blends beat placebo in two small functional dyspepsia trials at defined doses, but this label gives mostly blend totals. On the brand’s review widget it holds 4.65 from 151 reviews, almost all imported from an earlier provider and mostly from 2021.
What is in Optimal 1 Digest-A-Meal?
Two capsules hold a 150 mg plant enzyme blend (dipeptidyl peptidase IV 125,000 AU plus proteases, amylases, lactase, alpha-galactosidase, bromelain, papain, lipase and cellulase), amylase 50 mg, invertase 1 mg, maltase 1 mg, aloe vera leaf 50 mg and a 10 mg probiotic mix of seven organisms totaling 50 million CFU, with rice flour, rice hulls and a vegetable capsule.
How much does Optimal 1 Digest-A-Meal cost?
A 90-capsule bottle (45 two-capsule servings) is $36.00, about $0.80 a serving, and the brand suggests 1 to 2 capsules before each meal, so a day can cost $1.20 to $2.40. Autoship is 10% off. Shipping is extra; one reviewer reported $17.95 to Hawaii.
Does Optimal 1 Digest-A-Meal contain probiotics, and does it need refrigeration?
It lists seven organisms in a mix totaling 50 million CFU in two capsules, with only Lactobacillus acidophilus DDS-1 carrying a strain code. The brand says the probiotics are heat resistant and the product does not need refrigeration.
Can I get a refund on Optimal 1 Digest-A-Meal?
The brand takes back opened bottles with at least half remaining within 30 days for a refund of the product price (not shipping), and unopened bottles within 90 days; the customer pays return shipping. Empty bottles are not accepted, and there are no refunds after 90 days.
