Why it might work
Bacillus subtilis spores survive stomach acid, germinate in the small intestine and are gone within days of the last dose. DE111 has been shown to germinate in people and, in the trial, to shift stool habit toward the middle of the scale in both directions, which is the claim the product rests on. A high CFU count does not change the mechanism.
What the research supports
Strain-level evidence from one small trial. Fifty adults aged 18 to 65 with occasional constipation and/or diarrhea took 1 billion CFU of Bacillus subtilis DE111 or placebo once a day with a meal for 90 days. The DE111 group moved to a healthier bowel-movement index while the placebo group did not; the study was funded by the strain’s maker and has not been replicated independently. A separate study in people with ileostomies showed the spores germinate in the small intestine. No trial of this branded capsule was found.
What the label discloses
The listing states 11.5 billion CFU of Bacillus subtilis DE111 in a vegetable capsule and no refrigeration. No third-party testing certificate is shown, and the shared-facility allergen statement is broad. The brand name on the listing is generic.
Who this tends to suit
We match this product to people reporting irregular bowel habits, constipation, loose stools and bloating. It fits someone whose priority is regularity or day-to-day comfort. Whether it is the best fit for you depends on the rest of your answers — what you have already tried, what format you will take, and anything that has to be ruled out.
Where it may not fit
The label supports no added sweeteners. We flag this product for anyone pregnant or breastfeeding, and the quiz removes it rather than recommending it in those cases. That is a caution about who should be deciding, not a claim about the product. A capsule only works if you will take it once a day, every day.
Side effects and what to be aware of
The listing gives the strain but not the company behind the product, and the facility statement says it also processes milk, soy, wheat, egg, peanuts, tree nuts, fish and shellfish. A minority of reviewers report nausea. The 11.5 billion CFU dose is more than ten times the 1 billion used in the trial, which is neither a benefit nor a proven harm.
