There is not enough independent feedback here to call those themes reliable. Low review confidence — the 4.1 from 45 Amazon ratings is the only independent figure, and four of the eight top Amazon reviews read are free-product reviews; the brand’s 4.70 from 46 reviews is a Judge.me widget in which 44 reviews were imported from another provider, only 2 are marked verified and most predate the current product page, and there is no Trustpilot profile for returnhealthy.com.
Why it might work
Butyrate is a short-chain fatty acid that gut bacteria make from fiber and that cells lining the colon use as fuel. Calcium butyrate is a salt, which is absorbed quickly in the upper gut unless it is coated or encapsulated. Tributyrin is butyrate attached to glycerol, which the brand says releases butyrate further along the gut. The brand adds a probiotic yeast and two bacteria, shilajit and aloe, as support for the gut environment and lining. The idea is to supply butyrate directly when the gut’s own production is thought to be low. What the label does not let you check is how much of either form reaches the colon, since no release or absorption data is posted, and which probiotic effects apply when two of the three organisms carry no strain code.
What the research supports
No trial of this formula, of calcium butyrate with tributyrin, or of the ButyraGen tributyrin was found. Trials of butyrate salts are the nearest evidence: 300 mg a day of microencapsulated sodium butyrate reduced pain during defecation in 66 adults with IBS, 1.5 g a day reduced pain, diarrhea and bloating in 52 adults with diabetes and IBS-type symptoms, and 500 mg a day of calcium butyrate gave treatment success in 73% against 3.8% in 51 children with IBS. A pediatric trial of 300 mg a day of sodium butyrate in inflammatory bowel disease found no difference from placebo. This label supplies 1,680 mg of butyrate from calcium butyrate plus 200 mg of tributyrin per day, about 1.85 g in all; the probiotic evidence is strain-specific, and only L. rhamnosus GG carries a strain code here.
What the label discloses
Every line has its own weight on the panel, which is more than many butyrate products print: 2,000 mg calcium butyrate (1,680 mg butyrate), 200 mg tributyrin, 80 mg each of shilajit and aloe, and probiotic counts at the time of manufacture. The calcium line (310 mg) is lower than the calcium butyrate weight implies. B. coagulans and S. boulardii are listed without strain designations. The brand states cGMP manufacturing by unnamed partners and independent third-party testing without naming a laboratory or posting a certificate of analysis.
Who this tends to suit
We match this product to people reporting bloating, general abdominal discomfort and irregular bowel habits. It fits someone whose priority is day-to-day comfort or resetting after a course of antibiotics or an upset. Whether it is the best fit for you depends on the rest of your answers — what you have already tried, what format you will take, and anything that has to be ruled out.
Where it may not fit
The label supports gluten-free and dairy-free. We flag this product for anyone pregnant or breastfeeding, and the quiz removes it rather than recommending it in those cases. That is a caution about who should be deciding, not a claim about the product. A capsule only works if you will take it as often as the label directs.
Side effects and what to be aware of
About 15% of Amazon ratings are one star, and reviewers mention heartburn, diarrhea or gas after starting, four capsules a day, the price and no noticeable effect. The bottle advises consulting a practitioner if pregnant or lactating. The brand’s refund route is a 60-day return of unopened bottles and store credit for opened ones.
Common questions
Does Return Healthy Double Butyrate work?
No trial of this formula was found. Trials of butyrate salts show mixed results: sodium butyrate improved some symptoms in IBS trials and calcium butyrate did in a children’s IBS trial, while a pediatric inflammatory bowel disease trial found no difference. On Amazon it holds 4.1 from 45 ratings, and 15% of those are one star.
What is in Double Butyrate and how much butyrate does it have?
Four capsules hold 2,000 mg of calcium butyrate (stated as 1,680 mg of butyrate), 200 mg of tributyrin as ButyraGen, 80 mg each of shilajit extract and aloe vera extract, and three probiotics: Bacillus coagulans and L. rhamnosus GG at 2.5 billion CFU each and Saccharomyces boulardii at 0.4 billion CFU. By arithmetic that is about 1.85 g of butyrate-equivalent a day.
How much does Double Butyrate cost per day?
A 120-capsule bottle is $70.00 on the brand site and $68.95 on Amazon. The label dose is 2 capsules twice a day, so a bottle lasts 30 days and costs about $2.33 a day on the brand site and $2.30 on Amazon, or $1.72 to $1.84 on Amazon Subscribe & Save.
Return Healthy Double Butyrate vs Tesseract ProButyrate or BodyBio: what is the difference?
Double Butyrate uses calcium butyrate and tributyrin with probiotics and prints milligrams for each, 1,680 mg of butyrate from calcium butyrate plus 200 mg tributyrin a day. Tesseract ProButyrate prints one 300 mg complex of butyric acid per capsule without the butyric acid amount, and is $1.20 a day at its lowest dose. No trial compares them.
Does Double Butyrate cause side effects, and can I return it?
The bottle’s only warning is to consult a practitioner if pregnant or lactating. Some Amazon and brand-site reviewers report heartburn, diarrhea or gas after starting. The brand accepts unopened bottles within 60 days and gives store credit for opened ones, with shipping not refunded.
